NABL 112 Revision – Draft Announcement made by NABL Secretariat

Subject: Draft NABL 112 for Comments

This has reference to the announcement from NABL regarding the release of Draft NABL 112 documents for revision requesting comments from Laboratories and Assessors.

We would like to appreciate the efforts taken by NABL to draft a very clear and extensive specific criteria document for the ISO 15189:2012 Standards. All disciplines have been covered extensively in simple language, with a professional touch.

Further to the announcement a meeting was called for in Chennai inviting all Accredited Laboratories, Applicant Laboratories and Laboratories who are in the process of sending application to discuss on the revised document and give their suggestions for NABL Secretariats’ consideration.

The Meeting was held on 5th January 2014 at Andhra Chamber of Commerce and was attended by the following laboratories

 SRL Ltd, which runs the largest chain of pathological testing centres in India, wants to set up labs in government hospitals as it looks to expand without investing too much money into the business.

“We have for the first time looked at the public-private partnership model as part of the next phase of growth, and are in talks with various state governments to set up and manage diagnostics labs in public sector hospitals,” chief executive Sanjeev Vashishta said in an interview. Read more

Later this month, India will clock three polio-free years, a milestone that will be officially certified in 2014 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The last case of polio was reported from West Bengal in January 2011.

A WHO-appointed independent body is evaluating the ground situation and an announcement is expected possibly in February-March, says Ashok Mahajan, who heads Rotary’s Ulema Committee. Read more

New data released by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) have once again underlined the abysmal state of sanitation in the country, particularly in rural India where two-thirds of the country lives.

Only 32% of rural households have their own toilets, according to the recently released results of a large-scale survey conducted by NSSO in 2012. An additional 9% have access to toilets although the access figure could be an overestimate. The results of the last census had also highlighted India’s gaping sanitation deficit. Census results showed that less than half of Indian households had a toilet at home; there were more households with a mobile phone than with a toilet. Read more
